Wedding décor specialist says, ‘I do’ to bigger premises

The owner of a Glasgow wedding décor business has more than doubled the size of her premises to cope with a three-fold increase in business since Covid restrictions started to ease.

Purple Willow Weddings, based at Hillington Park, has seen enquiries sky-rocket in 2022, with owner Suzanne Marshall planning for more than 250 weddings this year, compared to pre Covid levels of 80 to 100 per annum.

“The pandemic had a huge impact on the company, as it did for so many businesses,” said Suzanne. “When the announcement was made to go into lockdown, we were in the middle of setting the décor up for a wedding. It was heartbreaking telling the couple that their wedding had to be cancelled, but there was nothing we could do.

“When the situation started to ease and larger weddings were allowed, we were inundated with enquiries from across the central belt and beyond. It was such a relief, not just financially, but emotionally too. It was lovely to see couples who had to postpone their weddings finally get to celebrate their big day.

“As the business grew, we realised that we would need more space for stock and our showroom. The Frasers Property team at Hillington Park were great and we soon moved from our existing 1000sq ft premises to a 2500sq ft unit. It was such a good move and we now have more space to welcome clients.”

Launched ten years ago, Purple Willow Weddings has built an industry leading reputation for creating bespoke wedding decor with venue set-ups that create a real ‘wow’ factor. Clients are taken through the process step by step to ensure that nothing is left to chance and the end result is a perfectly tailored wedding.

Clients love the personal service at Purple Willow, with word of mouth representing the biggest business generator for the company. Now that the business is growing rapidly Suzanne is looking to bring on another member of staff to help manage her close knit team.

And what about the couple who had their wedding cancelled at the 11th hour due to lockdown? “When we started up again, they were first on the list to have their big day.  It was an incredibly emotional day, although I am pleased to say all the tears were happy ones.”
