Sportsbikeshop, which was founded in 2005 as a ‘spare bedroom business’, has opened its first Scottish store at 24-26 Earl Haig Road and now has nine branches across the UK, employing 180 staff.
The lease was finalised within a month of the completion of the property’s £780k refurbishment by Frasers Property UK, which modernised the unit extensively and introduced significant environmental and energy efficiency improvements. This allowed Sportsbikeshop to promptly begin and complete its new Glasgow premises fit-out.
Chris Winters, MD at Sportsbikeshop said: “Our Glasgow store has always been part of the plan, it just took us a few years to get there! Finding the right spot was key, and if the positive response we’ve received so far is anything to go by, it should be our most popular store yet. As well as a large core stock holding in-store, we also offer our ‘Try on or Buy’ reservation system. With this, we’re pretty sure we’ve found the best way to link the full choice of the UK’s biggest biking website to a local store.”
Derek Aitken, Senior Asset Manager at Hillington Park, said: “Hillington Park’s reputation for its growing automotive sector, and being home for many well-known brands, has been further enhanced by the arrival of Sportsbikeshop. The business had been looking for some time for the right place to continue its impressive growth across the UK and we’re delighted to welcome them to the estate. Its popularity with the motorcycle community has already been proven by the large number of customers who have visited in the short time since opening. We wish them every success.”
Other Sportsbikeshop stores are in Bristol, Reading, Milton Keynes, Leeds, Harlow, Birmingham, Preston and Boston, where its main warehouse is also based.
Ryden and Colliers acted for Hillington Park.
