HILLINGTON PARK 5-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT BRINGS BUSINESSES TOGETHER FOR A GOOD CAUSE

The professional football season may be on its summer holidays, but the action was very much alive at the inaugural Hillington Cup, where over 90 players laced up for glory in a fiercely contested five-a-side showdown. Hosted by the Hillington Park Estate Team in partnership with Commando X-Fit, which made its two all-weather pitches available, teams representing businesses across the estate took to the pitch, vying to be the first winners of the Hillington Park Tournament Cup. Over three hours of high-energy matches, the competition delivered drama, dazzling goals, and no shortage of commitment from every side.

Commando X-Fit ultimately emerged as worthy champions, overcoming a spirited SecuriGroup team 2-0 in a gripping final to lift the trophy on home turf.

Meanwhile, the team from Kitchen Depot showed resilience in the 3rd/4th place play-off, and emerged victorious over Wholesale Domestic.

Lisa McAlinden, Estates Manager, hailed the tournament’s success: “I’m passionate about our Hillington Park community and have been looking at new ways to bring more people together through different events on the Park.  I was delighted so many companies wanted to enter teams and support the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. We raised £330 on the day and it was just great to see such enthusiasm from all the players with the matches played competitively but in good spirit. I’m very grateful to Commando X-Fit for supporting us with their superb facilities and my colleagues in the Estates team for helping run such a worthwhile event.”

Cameron Wright of Commando X-Fit expressed pride in both the football and the cause: “It was a pleasure hosting the Hillington Cup and seeing so many local businesses unite, support each other, and have fun. We’re really looking forward to return next year and  defend that trophy!”

Denis Connaghan of SecuriGroup, gracious in defeat, added: “It was an absolute pleasure to pull on our boots for such a great cause and be part of the estate community. Supporting the vital work of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity made it all the more special. The day was brilliantly organised, packed with energy, and brought people together for something truly worthwhile.”
