Led by our resident beekeeper, Meik, the session welcomed fifteen visitors from the NHS, TrustFord, Wholesale Domestic, John Crawford & Co, the Sugarcraft Shop and MAPP, the estate’s management team. Together, they met over 200,000 honeybees that call the Hillington Park hives home, nestled right in the heart of the estate.
Meik guided the group through the fascinating inner workings of the hives, explaining how each bee plays a unique and vital role. From queen to worker to drone he explained every role in the hive and how it all runs with incredible natural precision. The group also learned about hive health, sustainability, and of course, the golden question: how much honey they actually produce.
Sarah Fitzpatrick from MAPP said: “It was exciting to see the bees and the hives up close and to learn more about the incredible job they do for the environment. Everyone was fascinated by just how many bees make up a hive and we’re all in no doubt why they’re called ‘busy bees’! The visit was a brilliant example of Hillington Park’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and community engagement.”
